MY TEACHING STORY...

Jessica is a West Coast Indie Folk Singer Songwriter, although she partakes in all kinds of music. Her musical journey began at age nine as an acoustic guitarist, first being taught how to play German folk tunes by her Opa. Though it was challenging to achieve a sound on an old acoustic guitar as big as her body, she was hooked. In high school she bought an electric guitar and played weekly in a youth group band. One instrument wasn't enough so she learned how to play bass guitar and drums, rotating instruments as often as possible.

After hIgh school, Jessica graduated from Rosebud School of the Arts, a performing arts college in Alberta, where she trained as an actor and musician for the stage. She began her career as a performing artist working consistently with Rosebud Theatre. Jessica mainly worked as a performer on the stage but also gained valuable experience behind the scenes assistant stage managing, touring, marketing, producing her own show and being the founder and artistic director of Coastal Prairie Productions. She also spent a few years working as a dinner music ensemble musician performing with multiple artists. This enabled her to develop her voice and guitar skills by performing music genres such as: Musical Theatre, English & Irish Folk, Pop, Bluegrass, Country, Roots and Gospel. Jessica went on to study vocal techniques with a variety of diverse instructors across North America and has also had the wonderful experience performing in competition choirs.

In 2005 Jessica was selected among 50 artists around the world to participate in the Canadian National Voice Intensive at UBC in Vancouver.  She participated in voice and performance workshops in London, Latvia, and New York to help develop herself as a performing artist and vocal coach. Jessica continues to perfect her craft, currently working with vocal coaches, Tim Mallandaine (Edmonton), Lucas Marchand (Toronto), Chris York (New York) and Per Bristow (Sweden).

Jessica began teaching privately in 2009, and has been an instructor at Larsen School of Music since in 2010, and Windstars Music Academy since 2014.  In 2014 Jessica taught a ukulele, percussion and harmonies workshop for the Pro G Girls Day Camp at the Commonwealth. In 2014, 2015 & 2016 she was the electric guitar instructor for Girls Rock Camp Victoria. Also in 2015 Jessica taught voice & acting at Dansko Studios for two Musical Theatre Camps ages 6-12 years old. In the past four years she has led multiple Songwriting and Vocal Workshops for teenagers, post secondary college students & adults. Jessica is currently teaching multiple Beginner & Intermediate Ukulele workshops, as well as Harmonica and Songwriting workshops though out the city.
